ABOUT US
Building History
The main limestone structure was completed in 1802. The limestone and brick building, features a stone foundation and poured glass windows. A later, occupant, Miss Abbie Henkel, was a pianist and taught music lessons for many years.
In addition to being the
home of one of New Market's founding families, the building has had several
commercial uses such as a general store operated by Abe Neff & Samuel Funkhouser around 1835.
The building's last occupant was a regional bank that extended the foot print and added a vault.
General Store
Jon Henry General Store started in 2018. It revives
the historic structures past use as a General Store in the 1800s.
The Store focuses on sourcing locally, regionally and if from abroad, they are sourced via Fair Trade systems.

Our products range from brooms, vintage license
plates, jams & jellies, local honey, Civil War memorabilia, children's wooden toys, canned good, snacks, candies, and etc.

New Market is in the heart of Virginia's Cave Country with nearby Luray, Endless, Shenandoah, & Grand Caverns.
Jon Henry & Family
Jon Henry grew up in the mountains of Rappahannock County. His paternal family has lived in the
Shenandoah Valley for the
past five generations, mainly as farmers.

JHGS builds upon his family's past-time of produce peddling. Now, Jon as the proprietor of a 'brick & mortar' location extends
beyond seasonal produce.

Jon, also, manages the family's farm store in Warrenton, Virginia.

Henry has completed master degrees in Art from NYU & JMU; he brings a critical eye to layout, detail, and quality to the store's operations.
